JUNIOR CHESS COMPETITION 26/4/25
It was decided to delay our traditional Easter event until all our regular players would be available and what a success and enjoyable day it was with 27 competitors playing in a Major and Minor all play all event.
It was great to see all that registered arrive and join in for the all play all event.

Tournament scores for Major and Minor ……. Final scoreboard.

MAJOR SECTION
We joined the advanced and intermediates to make one group so 21 players took part. The time controls were 15 minutes each and this allowed more time for players to find better moves and think of tactics and improved general play.
Nicolas scored an impressive 5/5 to win the event and win a cash prize and a gold medal.
Nathanial and Rafan all scored 4/5 to get 2nd place – they all win silver medals.
Peter/Nirvan and Nicholas all scored 3.5/5 to get 3rd place and win bronze medals.
It was pleasing to see 99% of all players score points and use their time wisely.

MINOR SECTION
6 Players took part in this section and it was pleasing to see all score points. Unfortunately Nathan had to pull out and we hope to see him when he feels better.
Oakley was the clear winner with 4.5/5 – well done to win the gold Medal and a cash prize
Nilay and Mariella were joint second with 3/5 and won silver medals.
This is the beginners section and it is rewarding to see all these players develop and win their games.

We hope to give as many prizes as possible and all 27 Juniors were given a signed Certificate of Achievement for coming to our club to learn, enjoy and play chess.
Eric gave the presentation with the help of Azhar and it was great to see all parents and Juniors staying behind for the prizegiving and see the conference room full of about 50-60 people.
As always, the club at this level would not be possible without the loyal and continued support of Steve/Azhar/Paul/Martin and Tony (who is on holiday). Many thanks to you all.
Many thanks to Dee for organising the snacks and everything in the anti- room sometimes with 25 plus children to attend to.
I look forward to seeing you all during May for the weekly chess lessons and hope you enjoyed the event.
