BOURNEMOUTH JUNIOR CHESS UPDATE
15th November 2025
Children in need donation
Congratulations, and a big thanks to all that contributed to our 2025 campaign to this great and worthy cause for less fortunate children.
We managed to collect £290 in total with contributions from you the parents and the club. Many thanks it is very much appreciated.

We had the pleasure of welcoming 24 players who came to learn and play chess on saturday. I would like to mention we are receiving many enquiries from others that wish to join. We are not taking any juniors under the age of 7 as we feel it is the right age to learn and have the commitment and concentration to develop through chess.
As we know chess, gives us many things which develop the mind, including planning, techniques, concentration, calculation and the ability to learn. Chess becomes a life skill which is played anywhere in the world and online. Its an international passport wherever you go.
Tony took his group of advanced players through a game where harvey joined the group for the 1st time. It is called the master group challenge and the group need to study the position on the simul board to guess the best move. This is proving popular and the current table will be shown on Saturday.
The intermediate and beginner groups were supervised by Graham/Paul and Eric. We reviewed various middle game mating positions.
Pics from the 1st session and a team photo of the coaches.

I would like to mention, without the continuous support of all the coaches, namely, Steve/Paul/Martin/Graham and Tony these chess lessons would not be possible. We plan to continue as long as we have the ability to commit ourselves to this great cause.
2nd session – this session is always smaller which gives us the opportunity of more individual and group sessions. Nilay, Hektor and Andres are all progressing well as they continue their chess journey.
3 weeks to go to the final week of the ladder board competition – this week’s results are:
1st session – Kautum 0 Nicolas 1, Neil 1 Peter 0, Jh 0 Sarah 1, Harvey 1 Nirvan 0, Liam 1 Kit 0, Markas 1 Liam M 0, Pavina 1 coach, Omer 1 Erin 0
2nd session – Teo 0 Hektor 1, Nilay 1 Mariella 0, Manvik 0 Koko 1, David 0 Andres 1 and Sepanta ½ coach ½.
Ladder Board Tables will be shown on Saturday.
1st session
Nicolas taken the lead in the advanced section after neil defeated peter but there is only 1 point between the two. Well done neil, an excellent game to defeat the league leader.
Harvey is the clear leader in the intermediate group followed by nirvan and pavina who unfortunately has not been available in some weeks. Pavina however, is showing real promise now.
2nd session
Nilay is well ahead in the intermediate section and again is showing great progress now. Hektor is 2nd place and will need to catch up to have any chance of landing 1st prize
Andres is doing really well in the beginners section followed by david.
We look forward to seeing you all next Saturday 22nd November.
