JUNIOR CHESS UPDATE
19-4-25 – EASTER SATURDAY
We had an enjoyable Easter session with Easter eggs given to all competitors and a good turnout of 16 players.
The smaller number of juniors gave us the opportunity to have more one to one lessons from our 5 coaches.
EASTER & END OF TERM COMPETITION NEXT WEEK 26/9
Just to remind you next week the event starts at 10-12pm followed by prizegiving for the event and ladder board winners.
Time control will be 15 minute each and we plan to have 6 rounds.
To date 25 players have entered and it will be an all play event. We hope all our juniors that are available will enter. This is the only time in the term when our 1st and 2nd session players meet and compete against each other.
Eric took the 1st advanced sessions which we looked at pawn promotion checkmates at different levels. Several puzzles were set up on the simul board and the audience of Sam/Peter/Nathanial/Lathujan/Tristan and Jacob all contributed.
Steve had a good session with Liam who is progressing and Azhar taught Harvey our newcomer from last week and he looks promising and wish him well with his chess journey. Paul spent time with Nirvan and Pavina looking at mating positions.
Martin took the 2nd session group of Zara/Zayeen and Nicholas through mating positions and we hope they will benefit from the session.
Steve/Azhar and Paul went through all aspects of chess with Nilay, Oakley and Holly. All one to ones and this should be beneficial to all players.

Ladder Board games – 1st session
Congratulations to Peter who had an honourable draw against Nathanial to win the Advanced session and also to Nathanial for coming so close. Nicholas finished in 3rd place and good performances from Lathujan, Neil, and Tristan through the competition which started in January.

Intermediates
Congratulations to Pavina who was a clear winner in this group finishing with 7.5/10 games. Also congratulations to Kit who is just 6 years old and has progressed so well from the beginners into this group and finishing with 6.5 claiming 2nd place. Good performances from Nirvan and Jacob too. Well done all for competing and maintaining good attendances.

2nd Session

Congratulations to Nicholas who has developed so well and is improving week by week – Nicholas scored 7/11 to claim 1st place. Excellent performance from Arthur with 6/7 who just could not maintain full attendance. Well done to Rowley who has also progressed and finished with 5.5 points. Zayeen looks promising and will be a contender next term.
Beginners
Congratulations to Oakley who scored 5/7 and Mariella 4.5/9 in this section. Coming along weekly will help their development and I am sure they will progress with practice.
