JUNIOR CHESS UPDATE 12/4/25
We had the pleasure of having 21 Juniors including 3 new players to learn and play chess.
Several of our regulars are away during the Easter break but still a good turnout during the Easter holiday period.
Calander for the next few Saturdays.
19/4 – This is the last opportunity for the weekly ladder board competition so try and make it if you are available.
26/4 – We will be holding our Easter competition starting at 10-12pm followed by prizegiving. To date 22 players have entered and all standards are welcome in an all play all event.
3/5, 10/5, 17/5, 24/5 and 31/5 – a 5 week chess month so before the 3/5 let me know which weeks you are playing so we can register all in advance.
Last Saturday with Tony being away on holidays Eric took the 1ad advanced session where we had 2 teams playing against each other on the simul board. It was a French defence opening and many good and strong moves were made, most enjoyable. Newcomers Lorenzo and Harvey joined in during the session.
Steve had a good session with Nathan and Liam in the Beginners section and Azhar and Paul continued the theme of mating positions with the intermediates.
In the 2nd session Martin went through mating positions with the advanced group, we hope they learn and benefit from pattern recognition and closing out escape squares for the King which is vital.
Steve spent time with Nilay who seems to be improving and Azhar/Paul and Eric repeated the mating techniques with the intermediate group.

We aim to make our sessions as instructional and inter action with all players to make it all as enjoyable as possible.
