It was great to see and welcome 20 juniors at the club yesterday especially as it’s the end of half term.
We welcomed Aaran and Vincent for the 1st time and Charlotte for the 2nd time in the 1st session.
Tony gave a simul against the advanced players of Peter/Nicholas/Nathanial/Aarav and Harry. All games were well played and were close especially the game against Nicolas.
Eric went through the Scillian defence with Amalee and Larissa and hoped they will use it in future games. Openings are so important in gaining a good stronghold going forward and into the middle games. Both players are doing well in the ladder games and its great to see them progressing.
We welcomed Sam back for his 2nd session and Azhar showed chess notation to help him record moves. Eric went through a game with him and to ascertain his level which is intermediate at this stage and he shows promise for the future.
In the 2nd session Steve had his hands full with three new players who will need much individual teaching to develop their chess. They were given CSC workbooks part 1 to help them develop general knowledge through developing their chess. It is hoped that they will use the workbooks in conjunction with lessons to progress.
Azhar took Markas through openings which would help him.
Tony had an interesting game with Neil in the 2nd session and we encourage Neil to come along earlier to play with stronger players which will help him with his chess.
