Bournemouth Junior Chess Update
Saturday 7th March 2026 – Week 6
On a relatively quiet Saturday with several of our players away, we still had the pleasure of welcoming 16 very keen and enthusiastic juniors that came to learn, enjoy and play chess.
I would like to mention that it is important to understand all players have different goals in their ambition for chess. It is our mission to provide a service to accommodate all players that want to play, regardless of level.
Dorset Junior Championships 2026
We are all very proud that 12 players from our club entered and played in last Sunday’s 2026 Junior Chess Championships at Lytchett Matravers. All scored points and we hope they all enjoyed the experience of playing in a chess congress — especially our beginners who gained valuable experience.
Well done all, and we strongly encourage you to enter into as many local events as possible.
Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress — Next Weekend
Next weekend sees the Bournemouth Grand Chess Congress, where Grandmasters will be competing against top players from our area and far beyond. We know that Peter Nimmo, Nicolas OO and Kautam have entered the Minor section — we wish them all the very best of luck!
Three of our coaches are also playing — Paul Errington, Lindsey Aris and Tony Sanderson. Good luck to them too!
1st Session
Our advanced players — Peter, Harvey, Rafan, Neil and Kautam — all enjoyed playing games across both sessions.
Paul played a game on the demonstration board with 6 of our intermediates — I hope they enjoyed it.
Steve took the opportunity to teach Jack, who is more than a beginner and is showing real promise. I know he is enjoying coming along and gaining experience.

2nd Session
The 2nd session was very quiet but also very useful — both Lindsey and Eric went through games with Manvik, Nilay and Jake.
Steve went through various openings with Mariusz and — similar to Jack — he is showing great promise and is very keen to progress.
