Bournemouth Junior Chess Update
Saturday 18th April 2026 — Simul Event
Apologies for the delay in publishing this week’s update — the website experienced some technical difficulties. Better late than never!
Simul Event — Peter & Nicolas vs 14 Juniors
Peter and Nicolas kindly agreed to take on 14 juniors in a Simultaneous Exhibition Event.
The event was played in great spirit — a serious attempt by all players to give their best against very strong opposition. The games were of a high standard, the chess atmosphere was perfect, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. The standard of chess really impressed and there were no easy wins for the elite two players.
Indeed, Nathaniel, Neil and Hektor turned the tables to win their games, and Jake gained a very creditable draw. Special mention to Milan and Pavina who both went very close.
This was a hugely successful event and I am sure it will be repeated when possible.

Final Score: 10.5 / 14
A great effort by Peter and Nicolas, and all players — I am sure and hope everyone will take something from this experience.
- Winners (beating the Simul players): Nathaniel / Neil / Hektor
- Draw: Jake — great stuff!
- Wins for Peter/Nicolas against: Harvey, Pavina, Nirvan, Koko, Manvik, Jack, Milan, Rafan, Markas & Nilay.
Well done to all for arriving on time and making this such a special event.

Ladder Board Points — Simul Event
Ladder board points were awarded as follows for the Simul:
- Peter / Nicolas: 2 points each
- Individual Winners (Nathaniel, Neil, Hektor): 3 points each
- All other players: 0.5 points
The weekly ladder board tables below have been updated to include the Simul scores. This has thrown some of the tables wide open — it will be very interesting to see how things develop over the Summer term!
Beginners — Steve in Splendid Style
In the meantime, Steve managed all the beginners in splendid style — full on with Arini, Omer, Erin, Atlas and Kit in the 1st session.
2nd session beginners were Mariusz, Cooper and two new players Ram and Aayan — 9 in total. Well done Steve! All players were awarded 0.5 points for coming along, which is reflected in the ladder board tables.
