It was great to see and welcome 26 juniors at the club yesterday.
We welcomed Rowley after a considerable break from chess.
In the first session, Tony our puzzle wizard took the advanced group of 10 players through a selection of 8 puzzles and the group continues to impress us. Tristan is so committed to attending these sessions, that despite his foot injury he has still been attending these sessions !
Steve took Nirvan and Jacob through the basics of chess and we look forward to them developing their chess skills and knowledge.
Azhar set up simultaneous games with the intermediates and coached the juniors whilst playing and responding to his Pirc defence on black. It was a good opportunity to see how the juniors were applying their skills in establishing central board control, piece developments, king safety and of course the attack !
In the second session, Martin took the advanced group and went through an amazingly creative Ivanchuk game. Worth checking out with a chess computer… https://www.bournemouthjuniorchess.com/games/
Azhar went through how to attack and defend the “fianchetto” formation (pawn triangle) often played and found in many chess openings and defences. The intermediates seemed to be unaware of this apart from Victor, whose dad has played this formation with him, so we trust that this will assist them all to recognise this formation and perhaps include this into their game.
Steve went through a basic moves and tactics with Aman who continues to develop.
Many thanks to Tony/Martin/Azhar/Steve/ for coming along to support the success of the club.
Regards, Azhar.
