We hosted a special event this morning which was a simul given by Finn Schell to our 10 advanced and intermediate players.
The matches started at 10.10 and finished at 11.45 with a score of 8.5/10
7 won games and 3 draws for Finn, an excellent score. Finn with a current grade of around 2000 plus playing juniors that only really play competitively at our Saturday club. I am both very proud of their achievements without exception and pushing Finn so hard.
Outstanding performances were on the top 3 boards by Nicholas, Max and Aarav respectively. Other good performances were by Nathaniel, Tristan and Rafan, but it was great to see all playing and concentrating so well for this period of time and challenging a top local junior.
Scores:-
Nicholas 0.5 – Max 05 – Aarav 0.5 – all draws
Nathanial/Harry/Tristan/Neil/Harish/Rafan and Victor – all 0/1
Overall score Finn 8.5 – all players 1.5.
Congratulations also go to Finn who came equal 1st in the U18 Final of the English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association (EJCOA) in Nottingham last weekend with a score of 4 points out of 5.
So a special thanks and congratulations to Finn for volunteering and playing so well, we look forward to the next one and in the meantime we wish him much success in his chess pursuits.
As always we had a good turnout for our beginners and at the 2nd session namely Rowley, Thomas, Andrew, Arthur, Alfie Lewis and Aman, we also gave a trial to a new beginner Manvik Roy.
A total of 20 juniors all enjoying challenging chess.
Next week which is our final week, we have our usual end of season competition starting at 10 – 12.30 in an all-play-all competition, there will be light snacks plus Certificates for everyone and medals and cash prizes for all winners including the Ladder and Knockout competitions.
We look forward to seeing you all then.
